Guttering costs per 1m
Using the total cost of each system from the first table, we have divided the cost by 24m for the guttering and 12m for the downpipe. This enables us to gain a relatively accurate price per 1m (including fittings) that can be up or downscaled to determine costs.

Guttering costs when considering expected product life span
The table shows total costs of each system divided by its expected life span.

|Cost per year||£13.23||£44.78||£30.82||£50.20||£17.41|
This is where system costs can change considerably. We have all heard the saying 'buy cheap, buy twice'. Most PVC and steel systems need to be replaced two or even three times within a 50 year period. There's no doubt that cast iron guttering systems will last a similar period of time as an aluminium equivalent however, cast iron also requires regular painting every 10 years or so. This means you need to factor in additional maintenance, which can significantly increase the overall cost of ownership.
Aluminium gutter and downpipe systems are extremely durable and require little maintenance. All Alugutter aluminium rainwater systems have a 50 year functional life expectancy, making aluminium the preferred choice for those seeking a cost effective, durable guttering system that will look good and last for many years to come!
